True success in producing a quality casting part depends on control of the entire casting operation and secondary processes. Quality is the responsibility of the die casting facility, starting with the raw materials that are used, but the customer and supplier must agree on what the critical part and process variables are. This leads to the inspection and testing needed.
For conformance to specifications, foundries test and inspect the casting after they are manufactured. The generic term, ‘specifications,’ might mean everything from dimensional accuracy to mechanical properties and surface finish of the finished product.
The inspection and testing of castings can be grouped into five categories
● Casting finish.
● Dimensional accuracy.
● Mechanical testing.
● Chemical composition.
● Casting soundness.
